Keynote Address

This year’s keynote address was delivered by the Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Engr Abdullahi Sule, focusing on “Nigeria’s Economy: Any Hope for the Masses?”

Engr Sule posited that the Nigerian Economy was struggling at the time the incumbent Federal administration came into office. He stated that several tough decisions that needed to be taken had been taken and that revenue has increased. He said this money has gone into building needed infrastructure as well as strengthening the economy at national, state and local levels. He said the positive impact of this would soon start to be felt by majority of Nigerians.

Key Resolutions:
Economic Empowerment: MUSWEN resolved to raise N2 billion for economic empowerment, scholarships, and specialized training in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Data Informatics to enhance youth employability.

Security and Inclusivity: The Assembly called for a review of Nigeria’s security architecture and urged the government to promote inclusivity in decision-making processes.

Condemnation of CPC Designation: MUSWEN condemned the US designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern”, describing it as misplaced and unfortunate.

The General Assembly reiterated its support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and condemn any attempts from any quarters to destabilise the country.
The Assembly maintained that killings being done by terrorists and bandits stand condemned, regardless of the religion and ethnicity of victims. It also called on government to work harder towards eradicating the killers and the ideology behind the violence.

The Assembly also called on the government at all levels to work towards ameliorating the general suffering wrought on the citizenry by some of its economic policies.

Although the General Assembly recognizes the fact that the economic malaise was not the creation of the Tinubu Administration, it advised that the government should do all in its powers to alleviate the sufferings of the people. It noted that the country has started to see positive outcomes from the policies of government and urged it to continue to work to make life comfortable for a majority of the people.

On their part, too, the people should be careful not to play into the hands of local and foreign forces keen to disturb the peace and unity of the country and derail its progress.
The General Assembly called on the Federal Government to spend the gains made from subsidy removal on security, infrastructure development, electrification, massive food production, and employment-generating projects.

The General Assembly noted that the Ummah needs to do more in the area of education, as Muslims lag behind other religious demographics in the country. Muslims-run schools must be of the highest quality. The Assembly thereby lauded His Eminence, The Sultan of Sokoto for his scholarships support for female medical students.

General Assembly is proud that MUSWEN has been part of the distribution of palliatives to the needy.

The improved relationship between MUSWEN and the Rabitah, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, as well as other Islamic Organisations in the region enthused the General Assembly which MUSWEN is proud of.
Twelve (12) Female Medical Students (2 from each of the six States in the region) were presented with Scholarship worth half a Million Naira each under the MUSWEN’s Sultan Abubakar Female Medical Students Scholarship Scheme.
