FG inaugurates Monitoring Committee for implementation of 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement

The Federal Government has inaugurated the Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) for the 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN)/Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Agreement to ensure full, timely, and transparent implementation of all provisions and strengthen industrial harmony across the university system.

Boriowo Folasade, Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education said this in a press statement on Monday, 8th June, 2026.

At the inauguration in Abuja, Boriowo said the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, described the development as a major milestone in consolidating stability within Nigeria’s tertiary education sector. She stated that the committee was established to ensure adherence to agreed timelines and deliverables while monitoring compliance and facilitating stakeholder engagement.

She added that “The Minister noted that the successful conclusion of negotiations reflects the commitment of both the Federal Government and ASUU to dialogue, mutual respect, and sustainable reform of the university system.

Permanent Secretary, Mr. Abel O. Enitan, described the inauguration as a significant step in strengthening governance and accountability mechanisms within the sector. He urged members to approach their assignment with professionalism and objectivity.

“Chairman of the IMC, Olarewaju Tejuoso, pledged diligence and transparency, while ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, called for sustained engagement and regular meetings.

“The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to full implementation of the agreement and sustained industrial harmony across Nigerian universities.”
