Federal Polytechnic Ayede was a beehive of activities recently as the Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed and his top management team played host to the Soun of Ogbomoso, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, who was on a historic visit.
The August event, held at the institution’s Iresa Apa campus, attracted other royal fathers, Chiefs, community leaders and many other stakeholders.
The royal visit also entailed a tour of the institution’s permanent site in Ayede, where visible infrastructural development reflected the institution’s commitment to growth, despite its relatively young age.
Federal Polytechnic Ayede was established in 2021 and is already gaining national and global recognition for excellence and innovation under Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed as pioneer
Rector.
The Rector in his address of welcome commended Oba Olaoye and the entire Ogbomoso traditional council for their unwavering support of the institution. While using the occasion to request for increased and continued support, he acknowledged past donations and contributions in aid of the Polytechnic.
Engr. Dr. Abdul-Hameed stressed that the Polytechnic still faces critical challenges, with road infrastructure at the permanent site being a major concern.
The Rector drew applause from the Monarch and his entourage when he announced that the Polytechnic has introduced a new course titled “History and Culture of Ogbomoso”. The course, a mandatory part of the school curriculum, will be taken by all students.
The Rector said this will serve as a major and enduring contribution by the institution
to the host community by preserving its heritage and deepening students appreciation of their environment.
Significantly, the course content was vetted by an esteemed indigene of Ogbomosoland,
Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, who is Vice Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso. Kalilu is a professor of art and history in the faculty of environmental sciences, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
The Ogbomoso Monarch in his remarks lauded the Rector and his management team and expressed deep appreciation for the Polytechnic’s progress.
Also speaking at the occasion,
the Oba of Iresa Apa, His Royal Majesty Oba Moses Olayiwola Ajiboye, thanked the Soun of Ogbomoso for his visit. He also commended the Polytechnic’s leadership for consistently involving traditional rulers in its progress and vision.
