Okupe, known for his outspoken political views and strategic roles in various administrations, served as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He was the National Publicity Secretary of the now proscribed National Republican Convention (NRC), one of the two decreed political parties during the short-lived Second Republic.

He also played a significant role in the 2023 elections as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign before stepping down in December 2022 due to a money laundering conviction.

Despite controversies surrounding his political career, Okupe remained a formidable figure, later shifting his support to President Bola Tinubu’s administration and actively engaging in political discourse.
