Cross River State begins mandatory verification of legal miners

The Cross River State Government has commenced a mandatory verification of all Mineral Title Holders in the state.

The step, according to Prince Paul Effiong, Chairman of Cross River State Anti-Illegal Mining Committee and Taskforce, is a security check aimed at identifying lawful mining operations.

Prince Effiong said “This policy measure is taken by the government to address the challenges of illegal mining and insecurity in the state.”

The Taskforce Chairman said in a statement dated 3rd December 2024 and titled NOTIFICATION FOR CLEARANCE OF MINERAL TITLE HOLDERS that all mineral title holders in the state are required to come forward with their documents and other relevant information for clearance.

He added that the exercise is billed to take place between 9th and 13th December at the Ministry of Finance Hall, beside Governor’s Office Calabar.
