Chrisland University Announces Appointment of Commodore Kunle Olawumi as Associate Professor

Former Deputy Director of Defence Administration at the Defence Headquarters Abuja, Nigeria(DHQ), and a former Commandant of the Defence Intelligence College, Nigeria, retired Commodore Adekunle Olawunmi has been upgraded to the professorial Cadre at the Chrisland University, Abeokuta.

Olawunmi was appointed an Associate Professor by the University’s Governing Council chaired by the Pro-chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ayodeji Olukoju, following a recent meeting of the Council.

The promotion is with effect from 1st October, 2023.

The Vice-Chancellor, Chrisland University, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola, who gave a hint of the development also announced the promotion of three other top academics to the rank of full professors and Associate Professors respectively.

Those promoted Professors include Prof. Joan Mbagwu(Criminology and Security Studies) and Prof. Augustine Onyeaghala(Medical Laboratory Studies) as well as an Associate Professor, Adegboyega Afolabi (Accountancy).

For Olawunmi, he was promoted as Associate Professor of International Relations/Political Science. He is currently, the Head of Department, International relations and Diplomacy at the University.

Born on 25th May, 1963, Olawunmi, an indigene of Imasayi, Ogun State, bagged a Bsc. Economics degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2003 and topped it up with a BA. International Relations and Diplomacy at Schiller International University, Paris in 2004.

The Intelligence Czar also had in his kitty an MA. International Relations and Diplomacy in 2006 at Schiller International University, Paris and capped it up with a PhD in International Relations and Diplomacy in 2013 at the Center for Diplomatic & Strategic Studies (CEDS), Paris.

A lover of education, Olawunmi did not stop learning as he also clinched another MA in Strategic Studies at the University of Ibadan in 2014.

Retired Commodore Olawumi is a member of many professional bodies among which are; Member, International Society of Military Law and the Laws of War, National Institute of International Affairs, National Institute of Management, African Institute of Strategic Studies, Teachers’ Training Council,
as well as Fellow, National Defence College, Nigeria.
