Stakeholders of the 105 Wards in the Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have thrown their weight behind Chief David Lyon, former Governor-Elect in the November 2019 Governorship Election in the state.
The endorsement of Chief Lyon, who served as the Deputy Director of Contact and Mobilization Directorate, South- South of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC) , came up at a meeting of the stakeholders held on April 11, 2023 in Yenogoa, Bayelsa State capital.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, they resolved:
“That we decided to support and endorsed H.E. David Lyon, the former governor-elect of Bayelsa State, in the next party primary in that state. Recall that in Bayelsa State, H.E. David Lyon demonstrated his ability to win elections. He is known to have defeated the current governor in the most recent election. H.E. David Lyon would have taken the oath of office as the Governor of Bayelsa State had it not been for judicial intervention, which short-circuited his victory due to the disqualification of his then Deputy Governor-elect. Therefore, in our opinion, H.E. David Lyon ought to be granted the first option to fly the flag of our great party APC.”
They stated that “This decision was taken at Yenagoa the headquarters of Bayelsa State, during this meeting a vote of Confident was also passed on Chief David Lyon as a credible and transparent aspirant that can fly the party ticket and secure victory at the general elections in the state come November 2023 and to be sworn in as the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State February 14, 2024.
“More so, Bayelsans are fully aware of what transpired on the 13th of February, 2020. The presence of the Presidential Protocol team of President Muhammadu Buhari was already on the ground, and while His Excellency Chief David Lyon, former Governor-Elect, was carrying out rehearsal at the Samson Siasia Stadium, the news broke that the victory of the All Progressives Congress APC had been truncated at the Supreme Court.
“In all the Candidates, Chief David Lyon stands the Chances of winning at the general elections if considered as the flag bearer of our great party the All Progressives Congress APC.
“We therefore call on critical Stakeholders, Leadership of our great party at the State and National Level to reconsider His Excellency Chief David Lyon as the best option to fly the party flag, with him we can restore our stolen mandate from the opposition in the State.”
The communique was jointly signed by Chief Hon. Kemebradikumo Owei Theo who was the Convener of the meeting and Hon. Dr. Fidelis Peremobowei, who served as Secretary.
