Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, and his associates are allegedly pressuring and threatening the owner of Tawakalitu Restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Ms. Mariam Bakare Anike, to release CCTV footage of the incident involving him and his supporters.

The restaurant owner has reportedly told the politician that the CCTV system was already faulty before the incident and was due for repairs.
Sowore had alleged that on 30 October 2026 he was attacked and briefly abducted by unknown persons in Ado-Ekiti.

He later claimed the attackers were sponsored by the Ekiti State government and that security agencies provided them with logistics. He has repeated these claims on his social media platforms and in media interviews.

Following Sowore’s allegations, the Nigeria Police Force issued a statement clarifying the circumstances. According to the police, the incident stemmed from an altercation at the restaurant. Officers evacuated Sowore and some of his injured supporters to the police hospital in Ado-Ekiti for treatment — a fact Sowore himself confirmed. The police rejected claims of abduction and stated that several suspects had been arrested and were assisting with the investigation.

A source claimed the politician is determined to continue pressuring the restaurant owner and security agencies to hand over the CCTV footage and other evidence related to the investigation. The source described this approach as unusual in standard security investigations.

“Sowore has made several attempts to coerce the proprietress of Tawakalitu Restaurant into releasing the footage and other recordings of the incident made by her staff. He has repeatedly threatened to ‘destroy’ her restaurant business if she does not comply. The lady has maintained that the CCTV was faulty before the incident,” the source said.
