Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has formally withdrawn his membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing internal crisis.
The State PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, had earlier disclosed on Monday that the scheduled primary for Tuesday would no longer hold due to internal factional clashes, adding that Governor Adeleke had opted out of the contest in light of the unfolding turmoil.
However, a separate directive reportedly originating from the party’s National Secretariat insisted that the primary election must still proceed as planned, setting the stage for further confusion. According to the letter, the exercise is expected to take place at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo.
Amid the conflicting positions, a resignation letter dated November 4, 2025, surfaced Monday evening, confirming Adeleke’s exit from the party. The letter was addressed to the PDP Chairman of Sagba Ward 2, Ede North, where the governor noted that the crisis within the PDP informed his decision.

The letter, titled “Resignation of my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”, contained Adeleke’s formal statement:
“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.”
He also expressed gratitude to the party for the political backing it provided throughout his career.
“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”
Adeleke’s resignation, coming on the eve of a disputed primary, is expected to heighten political tension in Osun State and raise fresh questions about the PDP’s internal cohesion ahead of the 2026 governorship race.
