The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations In Nigerian (COCSON) has described the Acting Accountant General of the Federation, Mr Anamekwe Nwabuoku, as fit for the job.

COCSON stated this in a statement just as it said corruption allegations against Nwabuoku  are unfounded, malicious and baseless.

Few days after the appointment of Anamekwe Nwabuoku, as Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), some persons started throwing corruption allegations at him and concluded that he was not fit for the office.

In his reaction, the Director of Administration of COCSON, Alhaji Tijani Ali Danjuma, dismissed the allegations.

He described Mr. Nwabuoku as a square peg in a square hole and wondered why those behind the allegations had found it appropriate to carry out the smear campaign “at the moment when Mr. Anamekwe Nwabuoku was mandated to take up the enormous responsibility of leading the nation’s Treasury.”

Alhaji Tijani Ali Danjuma said the new AGF is a well accomplished civil servant who is devoid of any corruption charges or fraudulent acts. “He has served as Director in may positions and is fully equipped for the sensitive assignment that has been handed over to him,” he said.

Alhaji Tijani Ali Danjuma urged that “the new AGF should be supported to achieve the mandate instead of being made the subject of baseless media trials.”

He added that “Nigerians expect that corruption and all forms of financial infractions should be exterminated so that sustainable growth and development can be achieved in the country. However, it is becomes counter-productive and very dangerous when anybody that holds a public position is slammed with the corruption tag.

“The corruption allegations raised in the media publication against Mr. Anamekwe Nwabuoku and the clandestine manner the message was made public have all the colorations of an attempt to pull the Acting AGF down.”
