Lagos seals church in Surulere over noise pollution complaint

Lagos State environmental officials have sealed a church in Surulere following a resident’s complaint about noise pollution, the state government has announced.

The All Christians Gathering Ministry, located at No. 1, Ishola Street, off Clegg, Surulere, was shut down on Sunday morning after an investigation confirmed it was in violation of environmental regulations and was creating a nuisance for nearby residents.

The action followed a complaint by a resident identified as @BigDavery. Officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment inspected the premises and determined that the church’s activities breached noise control rules.

In a statement, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment said the church will remain sealed until further notice.

“We will not tolerate environmental violations or any form of nuisance that disrupts the peace and well-being of residents,” the commissioner said. “All religious institutions, businesses and other establishments are required to comply strictly with environmental regulations.
“Our enforcement actions will remain firm and decisive. No individual or institution is above the law.”

The sealing forms part of the state’s ongoing efforts to enforce environmental standards across Lagos, including against places of worship accused of generating excessive noise.
