Police operatives in Lagos State have arrested a suspected member of the armed robbery gang that attacked clubgoers at Ghost and Spirits Lounge on Ekoro Road, Abule Egba, in the early hours of Saturday.
The suspect, identified in a viral video as the gang member wearing a green shirt and cap, was reportedly arrested following intensified police investigation and tracking efforts after the lounge management announced a N5 million reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.
The suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation, while operatives have launched a manhunt for other members of the gang who escaped after the operation.
A police source, who confirmed the development, said the arrest followed credible intelligence and sustained efforts to identify and track those involved in the robbery.
“We have one suspect in custody, and he is assisting us with useful information. We are trailing the others. The command will not rest until all the perpetrators are brought to book,” the source said.
The source added that the arrest had provided some relief to victims and residents of the Abule Egba area, who had expressed concern over the brazen nature of the attack.
The robbery reportedly occurred at about 4am on Saturday and was captured by a surveillance camera, with footage subsequently circulating widely on social media.
In the video, several customers were seen gathered around vehicles outside the lounge. Some were sitting on the bonnet of a car and inside the open boot of another vehicle, apparently engaged in conversation.
One of the suspects, dressed in a green shirt and cap, was seen standing close to the customers and appeared to blend into the gathering before the gang launched its attack.
Moments later, the gang’s operational vehicle was reportedly sighted across the road. One of the robbers emerged from the vehicle and fired a shot, apparently to intimidate the victims and announce the commencement of the operation.
The suspect in the green shirt was then seen approaching one of the victims and attempting to remove his wristwatch, while other people at the scene fled in different directions.
The gang members reportedly dispossessed some of the victims of valuables before retreating to their vehicle and speeding away from the scene.
The incident generated widespread concern after the footage emerged, with members of the public calling for the swift identification and arrest of those responsible.
The police said the investigation was continuing, with efforts focused on identifying the remaining suspects and recovering any stolen property.
The Lagos State Police Command assured residents that it would continue to pursue the fleeing suspects until they were apprehended and brought before the appropriate authorities.
The Command also urged members of the public with useful information about the whereabouts or identities of the remaining suspects to provide such information to the police through appropriate channels.
Police authorities said the arrested suspect would remain in custody while investigations continue and would be made to face the law upon conclusion of the investigation.
