A newly established Rotary Club, Abuja Legacy, has commenced its community service activities with a maternal and child health intervention that benefited more than 100 expectant mothers in the Federal Capital Territory.
The outreach, held at Gwarimpa General Hospital, Lifecamp, provided essential birthing kits to pregnant women while also raising awareness on postpartum depression, a mental health condition often neglected in maternal healthcare.
Organisers said the programme was designed not only to improve access to safe delivery materials but also to equip expectant mothers with knowledge on the emotional and psychological challenges that may arise after childbirth.
Speaking during the outreach, Charter President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Legacy, Winifred Mngu Mbashall, said the project reflected the club’s commitment to delivering meaningful and sustainable community impact.
She said: “We didn’t come to find our voice; we built it before we arrived. If we care about how babies are born, we must care about how mothers heal, and that is the legacy the Rotary Club of Abuja Legacy is here to leave behind.”
Project Chair, Annmarie Ada Adamu, described the intervention as a demonstration of the club’s resolve to approach humanitarian service with innovation and purpose.
“We are not here to blend in with tradition; we are here to elevate it. This is Rotary, redefined through intentional impact,” she said.
The club said the maternal and child health outreach marks the beginning of a broader programme of community interventions focused on delivering measurable social impact across the FCT and beyond.
