The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid ul Mawlid.
The announcement, which commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, via an official statement released on Friday, August 21, by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
The Minister congratulated the Muslim Ummah both in Nigeria and across the diaspora. He urged all citizens to reflect on the core virtues of the Prophet, including compassion, humility, and service to others.
He encouraged Nigerians to use this period to pray for enduring peace, national cohesion, and security.
The Minister also advised citizens to observe the festivities with restraint and mutual respect for one another.
