JAMB MOURNS PROF. ABDULGANIYU AMBALI
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has received with profound sadness the news of the passing of Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, OON, a distinguished academic, accomplished administrator, and former Chairman of the Board’s Virtue Vanguard Group.
Professor Ambali was an exceptional patriot whose commitment to excellence, integrity, and service left an indelible mark on every institution he served. As Chairman of the Virtue Vanguard Group, he provided exemplary leadership and guidance to one of the Board’s critical examination monitoring and quality assurance teams. Through his wisdom, dedication, and unwavering commitment to ethical standards, the group contributed significantly to strengthening the credibility, transparency, and integrity of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
His contributions went beyond routine oversight. He was a voice of reason, a mentor to many, and a steadfast advocate of the values that continue to define the Board’s examination processes. The positive transformation witnessed in the conduct of the UTME over the years bears testimony to the collective efforts of committed stakeholders such as Professor Ambali, whose passion for educational advancement remained unwavering until his last days.
The Board recalls with gratitude his immense contributions to Nigeria’s educational development, not only as a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and an accomplished scholar of international repute, but also as a respected statesman whose counsel was always driven by the larger national interest.
His passing is a painful loss to the educational community, the nation, and indeed to all who had the privilege of working with him. While we mourn his departure, we take solace in the enduring legacy of integrity, diligence, humility, and selfless service that he leaves behind.
The Registrar, Management, and entire staff of JAMB extend their heartfelt condolences to his family, the Government and people of Kwara State, the management and staff of the university of Ilorin, as well as the broader academic community.
We pray that Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, and grants him Al-Jannatul Firdaus. We also pray for the fortitude and strength for his family, friends, colleagues, and associates to bear this irreparable loss.
