History was made on Monday, 14th July 2025, as the Ijebu monarch, Oba Sikiru Adetona was laid to rest, following the Islamic burial rites prayer, (Janazah) led by the Chief Imam of Ijebuland, Sheikh Miftau Ayanbadejo and other members of League of Imams and Alfas of Yoruband.
This was a feat made possible by the revised Ogun State Chieftaincy Law which the late Awujale championed.
Sympathizers from all walks of life made it to Igbeba home of the monarch to pay him their last respect.
Among eminent Nigerians who were present were former Vice President Yemi
Oshibajo,Gov.Sanwo Olu of Lagos state, Gov Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, former Gov. Olusegun Osoba, former Gov. Olugbenga Daniel, former Gov.Ibikunle Amosu represented by his wife, Mrs Funso Amosu.
The Minister of Blue Economy and former Osun Gov. Oyetola, Amb. Sarafa Isola, Alh Aliko Dangote, Alh Najim Jimoh, the Arowosadini of Egbaland were all there.
Captains of industry, past Deputy Governors, past and serving legislators at both State and National levels were not left out.
MUSWEN representatives made up of the Executive Secretary, Professor Muslih Tayo Yahya and a Senior Administrative Officer of the Secretariat, Alhaji Abdul Ganiy Oyeleke were well received by the Secretary General of Ogun Muslim Council (OMC), Alh. Kamal’deen Akintunde.
At the farewell, after the late monarch’s body had been lowered in a grave inside a mausoleum where his father and mother were buried, Gov. Dapo Abiodun extolled the qualities of the late Awujale, describing him as a man of justice, fairness and highly principled.
