Professor, students kidnapped on Lagos- Ibadan Expressway, abductors demand ransom

A former deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the University of Ibadan, Professor Adigun Agbaje, has been kidnapped.

Agbaje, currently on sabbatical at Olabisi Onabanjo University, was on his way to Ibadan at about 6 pm on Friday when kidnappers blocked his way near Sat Guru Maharaji Garden.

He was one of those kidnapped along the Lagos-Ibadan highway on Friday.

Also kidnapped, according to reports were two other other persons said to be students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic,  Abeokuta.

Their kidnappers have demanded N50m for the release of the professor of Political Science and N10m each for the release of the two students

It was also learnt that a policeman was killed in the shootout that ensued between the kidnappers and men of the Oyo State police command attached to the Tollgate area who were first drafted after sporadic gunshots were heard near the Dominion University some kilometers away from Ibadan.

Eye witnesses said they saw abandoned vehicles with their doors opened.


Some of the vehicles are believed to belong to travellers who fled when news about the kidnap filtered out on the road.

The command spokesman in Oyo, Adewale Osifeso was quoted in a statement as saying that a police officer was killed while another one was critically injured during the attack.
