The Federal Capital Territory Executive Committee (EXCO) has ratified the procurement of 12 brand new state-of the art and customized ambulances at the cost of N1.7 billion to improve response to emergency situations in the FCT. Also ratified is the procurement of fertilizer for farmers in the territory.
Addressing journalists in Abuja shortly after the EXCO meeting chaired by the FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, at his Life Camp residence on Friday 24 October, 2025, the FCT Mandate Secretary for Health, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, stated that for the first time in nine years, the Federal Capital would be getting 12 new ambulances of international standards, which she said had already been delivered to the Administration and will soon be commissioned.
The Mandate Secretary pointed out that unlike what obtained previously, the ambulances will be very operational and efficient, adding that the availability of new constructed roads across the FCT will also enhance its operations.
In response to questions from journalists on their accessibility to ordinary residents of the FCT, Dr Fasawe said that the Health Secretariat was working directly with FEMA on emergency medical requests. She also disclosed that FEMA’s 112 emergency toll line was functional and members of the public were free to check it out. On the use of ambulances for conveying corpses, the Health Secretary declared, “It is not ethical for ambulances to carry corpses. We are moving into buying hearses for that purpose”, she added.
Mandate Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon Ango Abdullahi Suleiman, on his part, stated that the FCTA had ratified the procurement of fertilizers, MPK, which has supplied. He said this was in “the quest to put a smile on the faces of farmers, and to ensure food security in the territory”. The Mandate Secretary therefore expressed hope that there would be better output at the end of the season, thereby contributing to food security, in FCT, and in the nation at large.
Other Senior officials of the FCT Administration who spoke on various sectors included the FCDA Executive Secretary, as well as Mandate Secretaries, Education, and Youth Development Secretariats.
Engr Richard Yunana Dauda, Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority, announced the approval of the contract for new alternative access roads to the Old Federal Secretariat, Durumi, as well the resurfacing of the existing roads. He pointed out that the road had become deplorable, adding that the contract was awarded on an emergency basis and practically completed.
Dr Danlami Hayyo, Mandate Secretary, Education Secretariat, on his part, announced that the FCT Executive Council had approved and procured educational materials for WAEC, NECO and other practical materials, in 88 senior secondary schools at the cost of N384.8 Million. He explained that this was necessary for effective teaching and learning for students in the FCT.
The Mandate Secretary, Youth Development, Hon Lawan Geidam, told journalists that the Federal Capital Territory Administration had approved a memorandum for the complete renovation of the Nyanya Youth Centre. He pointed out that when fully renovated, the Centre will become a good tool for youth empowerment. He further stated that the Centre had a metal fabrication, tailoring, sculpting centres, as well as an ICT centre, which will go a long way to help the youths in the Territory to be both self-employed and self-dependent.
Addressing newsmen also on the outcome of the meeting, the Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Hon Chidi Amadi shed light on water supply in the FCT, saying that the Administration had gotten approval for the procurement of treatment chemicals and automatic gas oils for the smooth functioning of the Lower Usuma Dam.
