Madam Bukola Onabanjo, daughter of the late Chief Bisi Onabanjo, the first elected governor of Ogun State, has declared that the 2027 governorship election presents an opportunity for the people of Ijebu to repay a long-standing political debt to the Yewas by supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate from Yewa, Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi).

Speaking at the APC flag-bearer continuation stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Ijebu Ode, Madam Onabanjo recalled that the Yewas threw their weight behind her father in 1979. She stressed that the solid foundation he laid as governor would not have been possible without that support.

Calling for massive Ijebu backing for Senator Adeola in 2027, she expressed delight that the Yewas are fielding a formidable candidate with a proven track record in public service. She noted that Adeola has already demonstrated goodwill by executing major infrastructure projects in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area.

“I am happy that the time has come for the people of Ijebu to repay their debt of political support to the Yewas. Senator Adeola is the best candidate based on his antecedents of performance and his Yewa extraction,” she stated.

Other prominent Ijebu Ode indigenes who endorsed the call included Chief Agboola Alausa, head of the Olorituns of Ijebu Ode; Hon. Femi Ogunbanwo (APC, Ijebu Ode/Odogbolu/Ijebu North Federal Constituency); Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, former deputy governor of Ogun State; Otunba Dapo Okubadejo, Ogun State Commissioner for Finance; Hon. Rasaq Dadah, APC candidate for Ijebu Ode/Odogbolu/Ijebu North Federal Constituency; and Mr Damilare Alebiosu, Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government Area.

Addressing a gathering that included CDC and CDA leaders, the Christian Association of Nigeria, the League of Imams, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NULGE, traditional rulers, Baales and other civil society groups, Senator Adeola disclosed that he has already delivered 15 infrastructure projects in Ijebu Ode. These include roads, a four-storey hospital building and the renovation of the Ojude Oba Pavilion. He added that more projects are on the way and immediately donated a transformer to a community development association.

He urged the people to vote massively for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election, describing Ogun State as a major beneficiary of the Renewed Hope Agenda on infrastructure. He also called for support for all other APC candidates who will work with him and the President to sustain progress and prosperity.

Adeola said his nine-pillar ITESIWAJU agenda for Ogun State would prioritise Ijebu Ode and build on the solid foundation already laid by Governor Dapo Abiodun for economic growth and prosperity.

The senator was accompanied by Senator Lekan Mustapha, Director-General of the Ogun APC Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council; Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Balogun, APC deputy governorship candidate; Apostle Biodun Sanyaolu, Vice DG (Political) of the campaign council; Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Hon. Laolu Olabimtan, Commissioner for Budget and Planning; and Dr Babatunde Adejare, Secretary of the APC Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council.
