*L-R: Presidents Bola Tinubu and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election for a fourth term, expressing Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Tinubu said Lula’s renewed mandate presented an opportunity to deepen the longstanding friendship and historical ties between Nigeria and Brazil, particularly in areas of mutual economic and strategic interest.
The Nigerian leader stated this in a congratulatory message on Monday, October 26, 2026.
He described Nigeria and Brazil as two leading nations of the Global South, noting that both countries could work together to promote economic integration and advance their shared interests amid changes in the global order.
Tinubu expressed his desire to expand cooperation between the two countries across several sectors, including trade and investment, agriculture and food security, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, science and technology, education, aviation and cultural exchange.
According to him, stronger collaboration in these areas would provide opportunities for both countries to deepen economic engagement and pursue common development objectives.
The President also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with Brazil to strengthen multilateral cooperation and advance shared priorities across Africa, South America and the wider Global South.
“Your renewed mandate offers an opportunity to strengthen the longstanding friendship and historical ties between Nigeria and Brazil,” Tinubu said.
He added that the two countries could play important roles in promoting economic integration and advancing their common interests in an increasingly changing international environment.
Tinubu, on behalf of the Nigerian government and people, wished Lula a successful new term in office.
The congratulatory message underscores Nigeria’s interest in strengthening its relationship with Brazil, a major South American nation, through expanded diplomatic engagement, trade, investment and cooperation in strategic sectors.
