A 62-year-old Nigerian-American grandmother and realtor based in Richmond, Texas, Anetor Gloria Ubong, has allegedly blamed her daughter for the 9.45 kilogrammes of a synthetic cannabis known as loud found in her luggage upon arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Ubong, who holds both Nigerian and United States passports, reportedly claimed that her daughter packed the illicit substance in her bag for delivery to her daughter’s fiancé in Nigeria.
The grandmother was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, upon her arrival from Houston, Texas, aboard a United Airlines flight.
According to the agency, a search of her two checked-in suitcases led to the discovery of 18 parcels of the synthetic cannabis, weighing 9.45kg, concealed in a box and wrapped in gift paper.
During questioning, Ubong allegedly told investigators that the box had been delivered to her residence in the United States by her daughter and the daughter’s future brother-in-law.
She claimed that she was asked to bring the package to Nigeria for onward delivery to her daughter’s fiancé, identified as Jibola.
The NDLEA is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged shipment, including the identities and possible roles of the individuals mentioned by the suspect.
The allegations against her daughter and the other individual have not been independently established.
