CAN @ 50: Yayi Celebrates with Ogun Christians, Pledges Continuity in Good Governance

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has pledged to sustain and build on the achievements of the present administration in the state if elected governor in 2027.

Adeola made the commitment on Saturday when he joined Christian leaders, clerics and faithful from across Ogun State to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta.

The golden jubilee celebration brought together prominent Christian leaders, members of the clergy, political leaders and other stakeholders to commemorate five decades of CAN’s contributions to Christian unity, peaceful coexistence and the promotion of the collective interests of the Christian community.

Speaking at the event, Senator Adeola congratulated CAN on attaining the milestone, describing its 50-year journey as a significant achievement in the history of the Christian community in Nigeria.
He commended the association for its role in promoting unity among the various Christian denominations and blocs, as well as its contributions to peace, social development and peaceful coexistence in Ogun State and Nigeria.

The Ogun West Senator also reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining a strong and mutually beneficial relationship with the Christian community, promising to work closely with CAN and other faith-based organisations across the state.

Adeola said his vision for Ogun State was anchored on continuity, consolidation and improvement, stressing that his administration would build on the foundation laid by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun while addressing areas requiring further attention.

According to him, continuity does not mean merely maintaining the status quo, but improving existing programmes, closing identified gaps and introducing fresh initiatives capable of accelerating the development of the state.
He assured the Christian community that, if elected in 2027, his administration would remain inclusive and responsive to the aspirations of all residents, irrespective of religious, ethnic or political affiliation.

Adeola further acknowledged the leadership of the Ogun State chapter of CAN for its efforts at maintaining unity among Christian bodies and fostering peaceful relationships within the state.
He prayed for continued wisdom, strength and divine guidance for the leadership of CAN as it enters another phase of its journey, urging Christian leaders to continue playing their role in promoting peace, unity and responsible citizenship.

The senator’s participation in the anniversary celebration formed part of his continued engagement with religious and community stakeholders across Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The 50th anniversary ceremony ended with thanksgiving and prayers, as Christian faithful celebrated CAN’s five-decade journey and reflected on its contributions to the growth, unity and peaceful coexistence of the Christian community.
