The Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS) has resolved the controversy surrounding a cemetery in Danhonu 2, Millennium City, Kaduna, which had previously been allocated as plots of land with titles.
The resolution followed a stakeholders’ meeting convened on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, sequel to a public notice issued by KADGIS on Friday, September 4, 2026, concerning some plots within the area.
The meeting brought together relevant stakeholders to examine concerns over the status of the cemetery and determine measures to preserve the land for its intended public purpose.
At the meeting, it was resolved that the cemetery would be properly beaconed and formally designated as a G-item, thereby preserving the site for cemetery use and preventing further encroachment.
It was also agreed that the Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) should be formally notified to halt the issuance of building permits within the affected area.
In addition, the community was advised to fence the cemetery to provide further protection against encroachment and ensure that the site remains available for its designated purpose.
Community elders at the meeting expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State Government, led by Governor Senator Uba Sani, for its intervention and directive to reinstate and preserve the cemetery.
They particularly commended KADGIS for what they described as its swift and responsive handling of the matter, saying the intervention demonstrated the administration’s commitment to addressing legitimate concerns raised by citizens and protecting public land.
The elders also prayed for continued wisdom and divine guidance for the management of KADGIS as it carries out its responsibilities in land administration and the protection of public land across Kaduna State.
The resolution is expected to bring clarity to the status of the affected land and prevent future disputes or development activities that could undermine the cemetery’s intended use.
