Kano State has been recognised for its remarkable progress in expanding access to hypertension care, with Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) commending the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) for its commitment to improving enrollment, access to treatment and management of patients living with hypertension.
The recognition was made during a courtesy visit by RTSL’s Chief Program Officer/Senior Vice President, Global, Amanda McClelland, to the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, in Kano.
Speaking during the engagement, McClelland described Kano’s progress in hypertension patients’ enrollment and management as remarkable, stating: “Kano leads Africa in hypertensive patients’ enrollment and management.”
The meeting provided an opportunity for both organisations to review their longstanding collaboration under the Nigerian Hypertension Control Initiative (NHCI) and explore opportunities to further strengthen hypertension prevention, enrollment, treatment and management across the state.
RTSL expressed appreciation to KSCHMA for its continued support to the NHCI, particularly the Agency’s efforts to expand opportunities for people living with hypertension to access healthcare through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
Discussions also focused on how RTSL’s technical support and strategic assistance could be better aligned with the priorities of the Kano State Government during the 2027–2028 planning period, with both parties exploring areas for deeper collaboration and improved health outcomes.
The Executive Secretary, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, reaffirmed KSCHMA’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships that support the state’s healthcare priorities and improve access to quality and affordable healthcare services for residents.
She emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration with development partners in advancing the Agency’s mandate and supporting the Kano State Government’s commitment to inclusive healthcare delivery under the Kano First Agenda.
The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment of KSCHMA and RTSL to strengthening hypertension care and ensuring that more residents, particularly those requiring continuous care and management, are effectively connected to appropriate healthcare services.
The partnership is expected to continue providing a platform for technical cooperation, policy dialogue and strategic interventions aimed at strengthening hypertension control and contributing to improved health outcomes across Kano State.
