The Federal High Court (FHC) on Tuesday announced the death of retired judge, Justice Baba-Gana Ashigar, who passed away after a brief illness.
The announcement is contained in a statement issued by the Director of Information of FHC, Mrs Catherine-Oby Christopher, on Tuesday in Abuja.
“His Lordship died in Maiduguri, Borno and has since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.”
The director described Justice Ashigar as a distinguished jurist who served with diligence, dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the administration of justice.
“His substantial contributions to the Bench and the legal profession will be fondly remembered by his colleagues, members of the outer Bar, court staff, and all who had the privilege of working with him.
“The Chief Judge, judges, management, and staff of the Federal High Court extend their heartfelt condolences to his immediate family and pray that Almighty God grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” the director said.
In September 2022, Justice Ashigar delivered a notable landmark judgment nullifying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial primary elections for Kebbi Central and Kebbi North.
This ruling sacked former Governor and serving Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central) alongside former Senate Leader Yahya Abdullahi (Kebbi North) ahead of the 2023 general elections.
