As Nigerians prepare for the 2027 elections, prominent community leader, philanthropist and House of Representatives aspirant for Chanchaga Federal Constituency, on the platform of the APC, Hon. Adamu Abubakar (popularly known as Ado Salami), has called on young people and all eligible citizens to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise by obtaining or updating their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Speaking to newsmen in Minna, Ado Salami stressed that meaningful participation in democracy begins with registration.
According to him, “Without a Permanent Voter Card, you have no opportunity to choose the leaders you believe in or influence the outcome of elections. Your voice matters, but it can only count if you are registered to vote.”
He described the PVC as more than an electoral document, noting that it is “the key that unlocks every citizen’s constitutional right to determine the direction of governance.”
Ado Salami particularly appealed to first-time voters, students, artisans, entrepreneurs and other young people across Chanchaga Federal Constituency to embrace the registration exercise as a civic responsibility rather than waiting until election campaigns commence.
For years, Ado Salami has been actively involved in initiatives aimed at improving the lives of young people and vulnerable members of the community. Through youth empowerment programmes, support for small businesses, assistance to farmers and community development projects – including the rehabilitation of public boreholes – the APC candidate has consistently demonstrated his commitment to improving livelihoods and expanding opportunities for ordinary citizens.
He noted that sustainable development requires active citizen participation and that voting remains one of the most effective ways for citizens to influence policies that affect education, employment, healthcare, infrastructure and economic opportunities.
“Young people are the largest segment of our population and the greatest beneficiaries or victims of public policy. They cannot afford to remain on the sidelines. The first step towards meaningful participation is obtaining a Permanent Voter Card,” he said.
The APC stalwart urged community leaders, religious organisations, youth associations, schools and civil society groups to encourage eligible Nigerians to register and collect their PVCs before the deadline announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He reaffirmed his belief that democracy thrives when citizens participate actively and responsibly, expressing confidence that greater voter participation would strengthen democratic institutions and promote accountable governance.
Hon. Ado Salami further amplified this message during a Talk-In radio programme which he sponsored and dedicated to voter registration awareness. He said it is vital that every eligible citizen ensures they possess a valid Permanent Voter Card which is a great part of their civic responsibility.
