Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on Tuesday, June 16, paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani, at his residence in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
During the visit, the Governor, who was accompanied by his Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Olohungbe and other statesmen, congratulated the Chief Imam once again and acknowledged his spiritual leadership, seeking his prayers for peace in the state.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to religious harmony and development in Kwara, Governor Abdulrazaq said Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki would have his full support and promised to give him a brand new Jeep and a bus.
The first Ubandoma of Ilorin Emirate, Sheikh Abdulkadir Oba Sholagberu, Sheikh Sohibul Bayan, and other highly respected Islamic clerics present commended the Governor for his support for spiritual leaders in the state.
The appointment of Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as the new Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate was announced on Wednesday, June 10, by Abdulraheem Muritala, Personal Assistant to the Emir of Ilorin Emirate, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR.
Following the announcement, Governor Abdulrazaq welcomed the appointment and congratulated the Emir, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, on the choice of the 42-year-old cleric to assume such a huge spiritual responsibility as the 13th Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate.
“The choice of a young and vibrant Azhari scholar as the new Chief Imam Fulani reflects the commitment of our community, which His Royal Highness symbolises, to continue to mobilise different demographies of the Muslim ummah for the greater good and development.
“I ask Allaah to guide and protect the new Chief Imam, perfect His blessings upon him, and give him long life and good health in the service of the ummah. I also urge everyone to rally round the new Chief Imam in the overall interest of our community,” the Governor said.
