The Ogun State Councillors’ Forum has publicly denied allegations that it endorsed any governorship aspirant for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Friday and jointly signed by its Chairman, Hon. Fasheyi Akindele; Secretary, Hon. Rotimi Adeyemi; and the Acting President of the Nigeria Councillors Forum, Hon. Muheeb Abiola Kehinde, the forum dismissed a viral video circulating on social media as “entirely false” and misleading.
The forum clarified that its members were in Abuja for a National Legislative Capacity-Building Conference sponsored by Governor Abiodun when an aide to Senator Olamilekan Solomon (Yayi), Chief Kayode Odunaro, made an informal courtesy visit to their hotel.
According to the statement, the brief interaction was misrepresented online. “No official meeting was held, nor was any political allegiance expressed or shifted,” it read. “Any recording from that moment reflected personal actions and not the collective stance of the Forum.”
The councillors emphasised their commitment to party discipline and unity, stating that they remain fully aligned with the APC at national, state, and local government levels.
“We have not endorsed any gubernatorial aspirant. We stand firmly with the party leadership and will faithfully support whoever emerges as the APC governorship candidate,” the statement added.
During their stay in Abuja, the forum also paid courtesy visits to all House of Representatives members from Ogun State to strengthen ties with elected party officials.
The councillors urged the public, party members, and APC leadership to disregard the misleading video, reiterating their dedication to promoting good governance and development across Ogun State.
The statement concluded with an expression of gratitude to Governor Abiodun and the APC leadership for their continued support.
