Tuesday, 17th December 2024 was a memorable day for Aremo Taiwo Allimi as big names in the Nigerian media industry and others dignitaries assembled in Lagos to honour him.
The occasion was a book launch in celebration of his 80th birthday anniversary.
The book, titled FOOTPRINTS IN BROADCASTING: The Professional Odyssey of Aremo Taiwo Allimi, was written by Dr Qasim Akinreti, Deputy Director, Digital Media Voice of Nigeria(VON), Lagos.
Aremo Taiwo Allimi is a former Director General of VON and a former Commissioner for Information in Ogun State.
Speaking at the book launch held at the COMBO Hall LTV Agidingbin Ikeja Lagos, the Minister of Information and National Orientation , Alhaji Mohammed Idris commended Aremo Allimi for mentoring generations of Nigerian broadcast journalists.

Ahmed Yalwa, Director (Northern-Region), Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, commended the writer, Dr Akinreti, saying the book was timely and would form a major resource on the history and practice of broadcasting in the country.
“A lot needs to be learnt from the book because it contains the challenges and solutions in broadcasting,” he said.
On his part, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, a former governor of Ogun and one of the doyens of journalism in Nigeria said history of broadcast journalism in the country will be incomplete without according Aremo Allimi a rightful place.
Osoba who was represented by Mr Gbemiga Ogunleye, Provost of Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ) in that respect commended Dr Akinreti for coming up with the book.
Reviewing the book, Prof Shared Timileyin of the Lagos State University, described Allimi as a titan in the industry and urged readers to view it as a social conscience rather than an academic material.
He said that the book is a huge resource for students of mass communication even as it is meant for media professionals, particularly broadcast journalists.
“It will also serve as a motivational volume for managers, who seek inspiration, particularly in the areas of networking, policy formulation, talent hunting and self-discipline,” he said
Goodwill messages were sent to the occasion by the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; a former governor of Ogun State, Senator Gbenga Daniel;Director General, Voice of Nigeria, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace and a host of other dignitaries.
Aremo Allimi in his response thanked all and sundry for the honour done him. He noted that broadcasting and other media platforms are weapons for tackling insecurity and other challenges in Nigeria and called on media professionals to remain committed to the profession, which according to him, is a vital part of broadcasting.
