“Let me reiterate the fact that the introduction of Hajj Savings Scheme by the current board was premised on our abiding belief that for Nigeria Hajj management to be on the same pedestal with other Islamic nations and in particular, the digitalization of Hajj by Saudi Arabian authorities, the Commission must build alternative payment system.”
REMARKS BY THE CHAIRMAN/CEO OF THE NATIONAL HAJJ COMMISSION OF NIGERIA (NAHCON) ALHAJI ZIKRULLAH KUNLE HASSAN AT THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE NORTH EAST-GEO-POLITICAL ZONE OF HAJJ SAVINGS SCHEME IN BAUCHI ON THURSDAY 25TH, MARCH 2021.
I am extremely delighted to be here today in the historic City of Bauchi for the launch of the Hajj Savings scheme in the North East geo – political zone, having done the same in Kano (North West), Lagos (South West), Benin, (South – South) Ebonyi (South East).
Since arriving here, my heart has been gladdened and energized by the vast store of goodwill, enthusiasm and support shown by the government and good people of Bauchi State.
It shows that the people indeed recognized that the Hajj Savings Scheme embodies their hopes and aspiration for Hajj in the future and that they have a burning desire to make it work.
Beside, it must be mentioned that the choice of Bauchi as the host of this event is not accidental but a decision wisely taken and is informed by the tremendous contribution made to Hajj administration by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of this state, (Sen. Bala Muhammad, Kauran Bauchi) who has a long sterling history of working behind the scenes and on the front lines.
It is on record that the newly constructed modern Hajj Camp by the Governor is first among equal in terms of the state-of-the-art facilities and is ranked the best in Nigeria for now.
Moreover, we are also indebted to the Governor for the allocation of acres of land to the Commission right in the heart and center of Abuja when he held sway as the Minister of FCT and provision of well-furnished office for our newly created outreach here in Bauchi.
Let me reiterate the fact that the introduction of Hajj Savings Scheme by the current board was premised on our abiding belief that for Nigeria Hajj management to be on the same pedestal with other Islamic nations and in particular, the digitalization of Hajj by Saudi Arabian authorities, the Commission must build alternative payment system.
The idea which has been on the front burner for well over a decade in which the previous boards have tried to lay a foundation which now becomes our corner stone. On this note, I wish to commend my predecessors, and indeed the wise men that formulated the NAHCON Act, 2006 whose vision, exemplary leadership, commitment and dedication provided the solid start and the legal framework upon which today’s event is built.
Therefore, Hajj Savings Scheme is an important instrument of transformation of our Hajj system and administration from analogue to digital. It is abundantly clear from the experiences of other Muslim Nations like Malaysia and Indonesia, that if we must evolve into the 21st century digital age, we must embrace this new idea and reap the abundant benefits therein which includes among others the following: –
1.Safeguard intending Pilgrim’s savings against the hazards of fraudsters, fire outbreak, thefts that may arise from the traditional saving methods.
2.Intending pilgrims need not sell or dispose their personal assets like cattle, houses to pay for Hajj anymore.
3. Enhances advance planning in Feeding, Accommodation and Flights schedule.
4. Contributors will become a part of a vibrant and active investors.
5. Offer subsidy for future reduction in Hajj Fare.
6. Job creation through establishment of branches of the bank
7.Align Nigeria’s Hajj system to the global network
8. Provide economic power/support to the Muslim Ummah.
9.Boost the country’s economy and the GDP.
10. Provide every Muslim the one and only reliable route to perform Hajj without depending on rich relations or government sponsorship.
The entire Board of the Commission wish to especially thank His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi state (Alh. Bala Muhammed, Kauran Bauchi), and the leadership of the Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board appointed by Your Excellency for the unwavering enthusiasm and support since we came on board. We hope we will continue to enjoy your supports.
I want to also thank our traditional and religious leaders and the entire people of the North East who have travelled from their various places to share this day with us and all of those who have contributed in different ways to providing us the opportunity and the achievement we have recorded here today.
And also thank the people of the North East who have travelled from their various places to share this day with us and all of those who have contributed in different ways to providing us the opportunity and the achievement we have recorded here today.
Before I conclude, I would like to emphasize that what we have done here today is just the beginning, we must at our individual level strive to promote and enlighten our brothers and sisters, our fathers and mothers, uncles and our communities to key into this Scheme.
Thank you for listening.
