WAEC calls for donation of PPE for 2020 Examination

The Head of the Nigeria National Office of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), Mr. Patrick E. Areghan has called on governments at all levels, multinational organizations, corporate organizations and philanthropic individuals to donate personal personal protective equipment (PPE) to guard against the spread of Covid 19 during this year examination.

Areghan made this request during a press briefing today Tuesday, July 7, to acquaint the public of the preparation and readiness of the examination body for WASSCE, 2020 for school candidates.

The press briefing which was held at the WAEC National Office, Yaba was the first by the Head of Nigeria National Office since assuming office.

The examination which is going to last 5 weeks from August 3 to September has One million five hundred and forty Nine thousand Four Hundred Sixty Three candidates from 19,129 schools (786,421 males and 763, 042).

While assuring of compliance with the the measures rolled out by the Federal Government aimed at checking the spread of Covid 19 such as physical distancing, he noted that more classrooms and invigilators will be required to conduct the examination as well as the provision of Personal Protective Equipment for staff, Supervisors and other examination officials.

“On this note, therefore, we are appealing to governments at various levels to come to our aid. We also call on multinational companies, corporate organizations, philanthropic individuals to donate these PPE to us. It is essential that all examination functionaries are well kitted to avoid the spread of the disease.

” May I also use this medium to escalate our challenge to the Presidential Task Force on Covid 19 and to humbly request for any possible assistance. WAEC has Zonal and branch offices all over the federation. The various state governments can donate the required PPE to the WAEC offices in their states” he said.
