The statement reads:

BEING PRESS STATEMENT BY THE NATIONAL AMIR OF THE COMPANION – ALHAJI THABIT WALE SONAIKE, FCIB, TO MARK THE 1441 AH (2020) EID –EL ADHA CELEBRATION

The Companion celebrates with Muslims all over the world on the occasion of the 1441 AH / 2020 Eid el Adha festival. We give thanks to Allah and praise Him for preserving us to witness and celebrate the second and final Eid in the year which usually signifies the approach of a hijra year end and the near commencement of a New Hijrah Year.

On behalf The Companion, I congratulate all Muslims in Nigeria and worldwide and call on all to celebrate in moderation in line with Islamic ethics. Those who are able to offer the sacrifice should share in love and happiness with their neighbours (both Muslims and non-Muslims) in the spirit of peaceful co-existence. Muslims and indeed all Nigerians must not relent in their prayers to Allah to put an end to the COVID – 19 pandemic and restore peace and harmony to troubled lands all over the world including Nigeria.

It is unfortunate that in this period of celebration, there is very little to be happy about in the affairs of our nation. The pervasive negative reports from different parts of the country ranging from treasury looting across our institutions to raping, kidnapping, banditry, ritualism, robbery, terrorism, insecurity etc which calls for a re-birth and total overhaul of our nation. The government at the highest level must be willing to do the un-usual to safe Nigeria.  The government should not hesitate to declare state of emergency to rescue and secure Nigeria from the desperate and unpatriotic citizens and their foreign collaborators.  I use this occasion to call on political office holders and public servants to espouse patriotism in the interest of the nation and their children’s children whose future is being consumed mindlessly and shamelessly by the corrupt and unpatriotic leaders in various spheres of governance in the country.

We demand servant leadership from our political leaders. Our so-called leaders have served themselves for too long in this country to the near complete neglect of the socio-economic development of the country and the citizenry. And the starting point is to reward excellence and meet out stern punishment for corruption followed by ‘patriotic consumption’ and “self reliance” whereby we consume only what we produce and pursue human capital development vigorously through massive investment in education for national development and national pride.

Once again I felicitate with all Muslims on the occasion of the Eid and pray Allah to preserve us all to witness and celebrate many more Eid in greater happiness and goodness.
