The leadership of the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lauded the rank and file of the party in the state for their steadfastness.
The commendation coincided with an event of two years ago when members of the party were attacked at the MKO Abiola Stadium , Abeokuta at the Presidential Campaign Rally for the second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari, during which Prince Dapo Abiodun, now governor of the state, was to be formally  presented as the gubernatorial candidate of APC by Buhari
In a press statement on Thursday, Tunde Oladunjoye, Publicity Secretary, Ogun APC Caretaker Committee recalled that “Two years ago, the whole world was scandalized and unbelievably so, as pictures and videos of President Muhammadu Buhari being pelted with different objects at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, venue of the presidential rally organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The rally, obviously  infiltrated and hijacked by thugs and disgruntled members of an opposition party, the Allied People’s Movement (APM), led to the physical attack, beating, injury and hospitalization of several supporters of the then governorship candidate and now Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun. Their only offense was that they adorned yellow-coloured attires, the campaign colour of the Dapo Abiodun Campaign Organisation.
“Two years down the line, as we mark the secondary anniversary of this sad event, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has acknowledged the steadfastness and sacrifices of victims, their families, leaders, members and supporters of the party,  while at the same time assuring them that, really, their struggle and sacrifices have not been in vain.
Oladunjoye added in the statement that “with the record-achievements of Prince Dapo Abiodun in all sectors of the economy, our sacrifices have not been in vain”.
The statement further posited that “less than two years in office, the Dapo Abiodun has put Ogun State in the front row of agricultural production in Nigeria, earning him the Nigerian Agricultural Awards as the Best Governor in Agriculture.  Ogun job portal has been opened and the issue of  youth unemployment is being vigorously addressed; and low-income housing estates are ongoing in all the four divisions of the state. Today, Prince Dapo Abiodun stands stoutly and proudly in the comity of state governors”.
“We urge our people to continue to repose their hope, trust and faith in the party while supporting the Dapo Abiodun Administration”, the statement concluded.
