Oduduwa Rights Organization condemns raid on Igboho’s residence by DSS

Oduduwa Rights Organization (ORO) has condemned the recent raid on the Ibadan residence of Sunday Igboho by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
ORO in a statement on Sunday by Yinka Adeoye said  “The invasion of the residence of Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho by operatives of the DSS, a security arm of the Federal Government of Nigeria, on Thursday 1st July, 2021 is a blatant act of impunity, lawlessness  and wickedness.
“This is clearly a premeditated attack, an illegal raid and a clear violation of the fundamental rights of Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo.
“Recall that Chief Sunday Adeyemo, in a bid to awaken the Federal Government to worsening insecurity particularly as regards the havoc being wrecked by Fulani herdsmen, glaring injustice meted out to citizens particularly to the Yorubas of the Southwest of Nigeria and marginalisation on the part of the Buhari-led Federal Government, rose up to the challenge by shouting on top of his voice, sensitising and mobilising Yorubas in a peaceful and lawful way to demand for an Independent Yoruba Nation. Indeed, it is increasingly becoming obvious that the interest, security and social well-being of Yorubas can no longer be guaranteed under the present Federal arrangement in this country.
“Since the begining of his awakening call, Igboho has never been found wanting on the side of the law. He has been law abiding and very peaceful in his moves.
“There has never been any time that he has mobilised people to attack any person or destroy any property. All his moves are within his fundamental rights to personal liberty,  freedom of expression and association, shortly after Igboho’s house was attacked sometime in January 2021, following which an attempt was made by some unknown  security agents to whisk Igboho away, without success.
“Following all these, Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo through his lawyer Hashim Abioye Esq, filed a fundamental right suit at the Federal High Court, Ibadan, seeking some declaratory, compensatory and injunctive reliefs against the defendants in the suit, which are the Oyo State Government, the Nigeria Police, the State Security Service, all military and para-military agencies in the country, the Attorneys-General of Oyo State and of the Federation.
“The Defendants are aware of the suit. The matter came up on Tuesday the 29th June, 2021 and it was adjourned till 23rd September, 2021 for hearing. Just 48 hours after the adjournment in the matter, the Department of State Security launched an attack on Igboho’s residence, killing two people and arresting several others.
“The question is were Sunday Igboho to be a violent person or a terrorist, would he have considered a fundamental right action at all which he instituted in his name and went to court to endorse the processes personally. This is a call to the whole world that Nigeria is gravitating towards becoming a jungle where there’s no respect for the right of citizens and where citizens can not speak out on issues that affect them.
“Inspite of the pending fundamental right suit in FHC/ IB/ 05/25/2021,the DSS declared Igboho wanted in a manner suggestive of impunity, lawlessness and wickedness. This is a call to alert the whole world to the injustice being meted out to citizens in Nigeria, the latest being that of Sunday Igboho.
“Unless the whole world does something very urgent, Nigeria is fast becoming a jungle in the hands of the  present Abuja landlords.”
