The National Universities Commission (NUC) on June 24, 2024, paid an Inspection Visit to the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), to check the facilities and amenities provided by FUNAAB in preparation for the resumption of Adedapo Tejuoso Medical University, Abeokuta (ATMUA).
While stating the purpose of their visit, Mr. Oladejo Azeez, Registrar-Designate of ATMUA, said that it was aimed to establish a framework for collaboration between FUNAAB and ATMUA.
Dr. Samuel Adeejo, the NUC Team Lead, in his speech, stated that the proposed agreement included the use of various FUNAAB facilities by ATMUA students, such as libraries, hostels, lecture theatres, laboratories, conference halls, health services, security services, internet support, and other teaching and learning support services.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde affirmed that FUNAAB, as a federal tertiary institution, was dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge through teaching, learning, research, and community service, particularly in the fields of science and agriculture.
He emphasised the shared mission of both institutions to provide high-quality tertiary education and strengthen educational ties through the collaborative relationship.
Prof. Kehinde further stated that the planned MoU signifies a commitment to cooperate in promoting institutional development and academic enhancement, including the utilisation of FUNAAB’s physical assets by ATMUA students.
According to him, the proposed agreement is seen as a precursor to further specific agreements.
The highlight of the visit was the inspection of various facilities, including libraries, hostels, lecture theatres, laboratories, and conference halls, by the NUC team, alongside representatives from ATMUA and FUNAAB.
Attendees included Senator Lanre Tejuoso, Founder and Proprietor of ATMUA; Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of FUNAAB; Prof. Adeboye Fafiolu, Director, Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE) of FUNAAB, and Lady Chika Nwezi of ATMUA.
Others were Prof. Austin Sule from the University of Jos; Mr. Mustapha Rasheed, ATMUA’s Head of Master Planning; Mr. Akinkunmi Jiboku, Senior Assistant Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, and Mrs. Olanrewaju Tanimowo, Legal Officer, Vice-Chancellor’s Office.
