‘The News Diary’ of this Episode of the programme commences with a News item where the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, Alhaji Zikhrullah Kunle Hassan reveals the Commission’s intension to forge a public-private sector partnership with interested private organisations to upgrade the Lagos State Hajj Camp.
He stated this when he led other members of NAHCON to inspect facilities at the Hajj Camp, located close to the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Akowonjo- Alimosho, Lagos State.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Olanrewaju Elegushi commends NAHCON management for introducing reforms to improve on Hajj administration in Nigeria.
He also appealed to the Commission to strategise on how State Pilgrims Welfare Boards can also make revenues from on-going projects at various Hajj Camps in the country.
The second News is about Niger State Pilgrims Welfare Board through its Executive Secretary, Umar Makun Lapai directs its intending Pilgrims, wishing to collect their deposits for the cancelled 2020 Hajj to apply through their area pilgrimage Officeri. He adds that the application for refund should reach the Board on or before the 31st of July, 2020, after which he encourages the intending pilgrims to roll over their deposits, as preparations for 2021 Hajj will soon commence and the list will be on first come first serve basis.
‘Spotlight’ for this week focuses on the various ways the Commission is making efforts to boost its Internally Generated Revenue and working towards being financially independent in the long run. These include among others: Leasing of some Hajj Camp facilities, Investment from Hajj Savings Schemes when it commences.
In an interview, NAHCON Commissioner in charge of Policy Personnel Management and Finance, Nura Hussain Yakasai provides more insight.
‘Making the Hajj’ shows Sheikh Huseyn Zakaria as he explains the importance of being on the plane of Arafat during Hajj, the acts of worship (Ibadat) that pilgrims are expected to engage in that day.
