The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi- Esan has urged media practitioners and social media handlers to be highly objective, professional and responsible with the content and images they post on the social media so as not to mislead Nigerians in Diaspora and the International Community.

Dr Yemi- Esan gave the charge in a remark she delivered at the photo exhibition held to commemorate Nigeria at 61 on Monday, 20th September, 2021 in Abuja.

She further said that the anniversary provides ample opportunity for Nigeria to look back to where it had been and prepare for the future.
This year’s anniversary, she added, is unique being a Diamond jubilee, adding that throughout history “Diamond had been known for their strength and beauty”.

“They are considered the stone of champions and choice stones to symbolize a loving relationship”,she added.

She further said “They also represent strength, fortitude and courage through their invisibility, having the power to withstand great pressure and drive away bad energy or ortune”.

The Diamond allegory, she said, explains Nigeria’s journey as a nation and how it has withered the storm of adversity to evolve as a strong and united nation.

She further said that photography has been a visual communication to effectively record and disseminate Information about the world, humanity and our heritage, preserve and extend knowledge and understanding across generations.

According to the Head of Service, images or pictures speak louder than words, adding that images captured will continue to tell the stories they have created long afterwards.

She explained that the photo exhibition is a well thought out initiative that served as a reminder that nation building is a collective responsibility.

“For the sake of posterity, we must observe a high sense of moral responsibility to the Unity and Peace of our Nation” ,she added.

This, she explained, can only be achieved through a balanced and objective projection of the photography of our nation and by projecting our long lasting natural values of Peace, Unity and Patriotism”.
