Hafsat Abiola-Costello has extoled the virtues of her mother, the late Kudirat Abiola, 25 years after she was assassinated in broad-day light in Lagos for agitating for the de-annulment of the voided June 12, 1993 presidential election victory of her husband, the late M.K.O. Abiola.

In a post on her social media handles on Friday, Hafsat said: “Today is the 25th anniversary of my mum’s death. It occurs at a time in which Nigeria and a few other countries in the region are experiencing violent conflicts, in which our democracies struggle to protect lives.
“In a world where black lives matter, I would not need to share my mother’s photo on this day. So many would not be wandering about with their hearts buried with their loved ones. My condolences to the many newly bereaved.
“And my promise. We will come to a day, we will arrive at an hour when the world looks on blackness and sees the first of the human race, whole and complete. The experience of negation will be but a distant memory.
“On that day, at that hour, neither our gold nor any other form of wealth will blind our neighbours and co-travellers from seeing our humanity. We will be together, in loving community. Our currency will be kindness and we will be wealthy beyond imagining.
“For my dearest Kudi, for my one and only MKO, for the thousands that we have already lost this year, across our countries; for the countless number we have lost through the centuries, I will work for this.”
