Kano to sanitize traditional/herbal medicine practice

Efforts by the Kano State Government to sanitize the Traditional/Herbal Medicines practice in the state is aimed at protecting the health of the citizens.
Executive Secretary of the state’s Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA), Dr. Usman Tijjani Aliyu, stated this when he received the SSA to the Governor on Traditional/Herbal Medicines, Malam Khamisu Kibiya who paid him an advocacy visit at the agency headquarters on Tuesday.

Dr Aliyu said the establishment of synergy between the agency and the Traditional/Herbal Medicines practitioners with regulatory framework would enhance their practice and eradicate quacks among them whose aim is to swindle the people at the risk of their health.

While appreciating the visit, the Executive Secretary appealed to the SSA to educate the practitioner on the need to register with the agency so as to avail them of the best practising model.

On his part, the SSA Herbal, Malam Khamisu Kibiya said that mutual understanding and collaboration between his office and herbal associations in the state will continue to be of utmost benefit to the health sector in Kano state and beyond.

In attendance are leaders of the Islamic Medicine Association, leaders of Complementary and Alternative medicine practitioners, leaders of Herbal Medicine Association, leaders of local Barbers Association ( wanzamai)  and Vice president of Traditional, complementary and alternative medicine practitioners, North West Zone of Nigeria.
