“Over the years, the Kaduna State Government has made strides in eradicating open defecation. In this quest, we’ve had the support of UNICEF which has funded the expansion of access to safe and portable water through the SHAWN II programme.
We are determined to build on these successes to accelerate the attainment in Kaduna State of the national goal to make Nigeria Open Defecation Free (ODF) by the year 2025.

Already, 2,269 communities in the state have attained Open Defecation Free status.
In our desire to ensure all our communities attain Open Defecation Free status, the Kaduna State Government has declared a state of emergency in the Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector in our state today.
During the emergency period in the Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector, the Kaduna State Government will continue to invest in the human and material resources to eliminate open defecation.
Kaduna State looks forward to building on the gains of the SHAWN II programme to attain a Vital, Sustainable Development Goal.
Thank you and God bless you.”
