The renewed attacks on communities in Igabi and Kajuru Local Governments, as well as the Kaduna – Abuja Road is worrisome and highly condemnable. That non-state actors, with access to instruments of violence, have been operating with ease must be a cause for concern to anybody interested in the security and welfare of our people.
They attacked Albasu village in Igabi Local Government. They wrecked havoc on Maraban Kajuru in Kajuru Local Government. They took over Kaduna – Abuja Expressway and hauled some people, including students of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria into captivity. It has been a trail of sweat and blood.
The continued siege on the Abuja – Kaduna Road by bandits is a direct affront on the Federal Government and in particular the security agencies. Criminal elements cannot “annex” a strategic gateway in our country and we fail to take stern measures. This is the time to take the fight to the bandits and kidnappers and reassert the Federal Government’s monopoly of the coercive instruments of state. Enough is indeed Enough.
I urge the Federal Government to work with the Kaduna State Government to uproot these bandits from Igabi and Kajuru Local Governments. The Federal Government should also carry out a one month intensive operation on Kaduna – Abuja Road to degrade the bandits and kidnappers. Anybody, no matter how highly placed, found to be aiding and abetting criminality along the Road should be brought to book. The communities along the strategic Road must be carried along in the sweeping operation. There must be no half measures.
My sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in the murderous attacks. May their gentle souls rest in perfect peace. I also pray for the safe return of the 8 students of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and other innocent Nigerians who were kidnapped along the Kaduna – Abuja Road. May God Almighty strengthen them as they go through this harrowing experience.
