Banditry : Gen Abubakar (rtd) speaks on story linking him with purported arrested helicopter

Former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami A. Abubakar (rtd) has described as false and unfounded, a trending social media story  linking him to a purported arrested helicopter supplying food to bandits.

He said ordinarily, he would have ignored such spurious news but he  had to set the record straight.

A statement on Sunday  by Dr. Yakubu Suleiman, his Media Aide said  “General Abdulsalami A. Abubakar disassociates himself from such a heinous crime that is unbecoming of any patriotic citizen.

“This kind of fake news has the potential of aggravating the already tense security  situation in the Country and should not be condoned.

“He lamented on how individuals can be so callous to peddle such news and smear the image and character of people.

“He urged Nigerians to ignore such treacherous acts and to be careful with the kind of information they dish out and share on Social Media.

“He further urged Nigerians to continue to work and pray for enduring peace in Nigeria.”

The trending social media story had it that an Helicopter supplying food, weapons, and ammunitions to bandits, kidnappers, Fulani herdsmen and cattle rustlers had been arrested by local indigenes of Arina village Shiroro local govt, in Niger State, using local traditional powers to send angry bees to cover the body of the Helicopter and chased the pilots away.”

The story alleged that the helicopter belongs to General Abubakar (rtd).
