ACTINSPACE Hackathon competition declared open

The 2-day ACTINSPACE Hackathon has been declared started by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami.
While declaring the competition open, the Minister said the competition falls under Pillars 2, 5 & 8 of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy bordering on digital skills and services and, indigenous content.
He also informed the participants that the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy continues to formulate and support policies that support the development of the citizens particularly the youth; and urged the participants to strive to win the competition as the winners will represent Nigeria in the global competition at Paris, France.
 He commended NigComSat-1R for hosting the programme on behalf of Nigeria and thanked the mentors and the mentees for their work.
On her part, Dr. Abimbola Alale, Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, which is the host of the 2020 ACTINSPACE competition in Nigeria, said the event is timely, in line with the  Minister’s drive of ensuring digital skills for the citizenry. Dr. Alale also starts that digital economy, which keeps growing, is the best way to groom the youth. She urged the contestants to be futuristic in their thinking and try to showcase what the satellite sector can contribute to the digitalization of Nigeria.
Representative of the DG National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Godstime James spoke on the role of the youth in the development of the space sector. He said the youth can play advisory role in the space sector and that the creative minds of youth should be exploited for developing future space programmes.
The ACTINSPACE Innovation Competition in an international competition targeted at students of tertiary institutions, IT startups and entrepreneurs to create new applications using space-related technologies, satellite data and relevant licenses.
