“…on this 31st anniversary of my teaching carrier, I present my new addition to the world of knowledge CONSTITUTIONALISM IN NIGERIA: LAW AND POLITICS IN AN EMERGING AFRICAN DEMOCRACY (2022) for the benefit of the current and future generations of mankind. ” – Prof Mojeed Alabi

This day some 31 years ago, I formally assumed duty as an Assistant Lecturer in my alma mater at Obafemi Awolowo University (Ife).

That wasn’t spectacularly surprising! Having emerged the Best Overall Student in Political Science in my graduating class some six years earlier, and with Postgraduate Fellowship Awards for two academic sessions that gave me opportunity of teaching assistantship in the Department, my mentors had insisted and paved the way for my retention as an academic staff even when, for three months after a position was de-frozen for me I was nowhere to be found because (unknown to them) I was engrossed in finalising my LLB programme at the University Of Ibadan, Nigeria’s Premier University (UI).

That was the beginning of what I know how to do best – mentoring! Early in my career, I had been exposed to teaching large classes through SSC 104 (Governing of Men) and POL 203 & POL 205 (Nigeria’s Constitutional Developments and Politics), offered to students across virtually all departments in the non-science Faculties, including Agric Science and Nursing students.

Since then and throughout the three decades of my teaching and research across institutions of higher learning in Political Science, International Law and Diplomacy, and Public Law at the undergraduate, professional and postgraduate levels (at Ife, Ilishan-Remo, Ilorin, Tangier, Mowe, Abuja, Okuku, Abidjan and Ifetedo), the urge to aid students’ learning through the production of a single, comprehensive and all-inclusive textbook on Nigerian Constitutional Law and Politics has been a dream, delayed but further enriched by my foray in and out of practical politics.

But the dream was not killed, and on this 31st anniversary of my teaching carrier, I present my new addition to the world of knowledge CONSTITUTIONALISM IN NIGERIA: LAW AND POLITICS IN AN EMERGING AFRICAN DEMOCRACY (2022) for the benefit of the current and future generations of mankind.
